CAMPAIGN NEWS... Thanks to all of you that supported my campaign, we are moving towards a greener day...

I spoke on WPHM 1380 AM on Thursday, Oct 30 at 7:10 AM Morning show with Paul Miller...

It was great to speak at the VFW Hall in Shelby Township, Macomb County, October 7th. Thanks to everyone that participated.

I enjoyed participating in a candidates forum VOTERPALOOZA in Port Huron on Sat afternoon Sept 20. The forum was sponsored by BlueNovember.Org

...I had the pleasure to speak at a panel discussion sponsored by 11th Hour for Peace and the Detroit Area Peace and Justice Network, on Friday March 21, 2008. The topic of the forum was "HOW SHOULD CONGRESS END THE OCCUPATION OF IRAQ? What should we the people do to force them to act?" Videos from the event, including my statement are available online at www.11hour4peace.org listed under past events. Please take a look at the video, and encourage your friends to view it also.

Hello Friends,

Yes, I'll be running again for Congress on your November 2008 ballot-- thanks for the encouragement you provided when you voted for me in 2006!

Meantime I'll be travelling around the 4 1/2 counties of Michigan's 10th District to meet more of you & discuss our shared interests as more & more, we realize we're all in the same boat as a state & as a nation. I'll usually be driving our Flex Fuel Chevy sedan on these trips.

I first came to the Thumb in the late 1970's when my then teenage daughter & I were volunteers at the Muscular Dystrophy Assn's summer camp, held at Camp Cavell, near Lexington.  This was a very moving experience for both of us as we met the kids who were diagnosed with one of the conditions covered by "Jerry's Kids".  If you can participate in one of the upcoming Labor Day projects this year to raise funds for this purpose, I'd encourage you to do so!

Of course, later I added a sister-in-law born in Grindstone City to my family, & have visited many familiar sites in Huron County with her, from the old grocery store site in Port Austin, to Huron City & Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse where her father was born.

I'm so proud of the Thumb counties for becoming the "Wind Turbine Capital of Michigan" with the development of the John Deere Harvest Wind Farm in association with Wolverine Power Co-op.  I'm proud of the Michigan Beans from Kinde that have been the staple for the bean soup served in the dining room of the US Senate, & I'm particularly proud of the corn raised here that spurred development of ethanol fuels, tho that will gradually replaced by cellulosic ethanol from a variety of botanical materials & waste by-products.

People in Port Huron are joined to Lapeer by both Highway I-69 & Amtrak stations in both cities, which are important to international trade with Canada, as well as for our own American travel.  I belong to both the Michigan Assn of Rail Passengers & the National Assn & have traveled to the southwest & to the west coast on Amtrak.  (The fares are cheapest if you buy them as early as possible before your date of travel.) Rail is an

economical way to ship goods, but electric & hybrid cars will soon be on our roads--many designed & built right in our area.  Hopefully these will help to keep both our air & water cleaner; we must monitor the mercury levels, TCE from cleaning military aircraft tanks at Selfridge, and sewage spills that contaminate our water from Harrison Township, along Harbor Beach, & Lake Huron & around to Bay Port on the Saginaw Bay.  We need volunteer citizens as Water Sentinels for the Sierra Club project in our state.

My hope for this campaign is that we can join together to educate ourselves about the problems that concern us all, from the devaluation of the US currency that makes oil & other imports more expensive, to corporate raiding of public & investor funds, health hazards unmonitored by the FDA, deceptive real estate & banking practices, & so many other concerns. But at the top of the list is the continuing war on two fronts in the Middle East that saps our wealth & threatens to flow into other areas bordering Russia, with risks even to our Alaska shores, where oil drilling claims are being made as global warming at the North Pole makes the area more accessible.

Our nation is new, compared to many others, but we've met many other challenges, and we will meet these, too, & I'm proud to be part of this effort in which you have joined me at the polls, before--& where I hope you'll help to send a message of our concerns on November 4!

Sincerely,

Candace
