Hello Friends,

Yes, I'm running again to represent YOU as Michigan's next Lieutenant Governor (and elect Paul Homeniuk, of East Lansing, for Governor!). Remember to vote on November 4, 2014 or vote by absentee ballot. Now I need your VOTE and your help in getting out the message and the votes of others! I'll be speaking at Voter Forums around the state and listening to your input. When it comes to jobs and freedom, we need to see our children well-educated. We're all in the same boat as a state & as a nation.

As a former certified elementary school teacher in Chicago, my children attended public schools & I have been interested in opportunities for education, both within & outside schools. Our high school grads need to know the employment stats for programs. A few years ago while walking on the streets of Atlanta GA as a tourist, a young man approaching from the opposite direction called out to me, "What does 'innovative' mean?" So I called back, "it means trying new ideas", & we passed each other without stopping. This is an example of what I term the "University of the streets", which is a form of net-working.

Charter schools are Public Schools, funded by taxpayer dollars, plus any additional grant monies that might be awarded. Each school is chartered by a college with a degree-granting education dept. In Lapeer, our Bd of Educ has retained oversight & has NOT hired an outside for-profit company to administer the funds---admission is thru names drawn by lot. Lapeer has opened its first cyber-school now & will evaluate its results; Cyber school may provide a beneficial alternative to "expelling" students for infractions w/out turning them onto the streets (I am a former Juvenile Court caseworker in Chicago .)

All teachers want students doing homework "CORRECTLY AND EFFICIENTLY". I see new opportunities for using appropriate computer programs to ensure students are practicing spelling, matching words to meanings, CORRECTLY. Carrolton Schools, for example, have worked out a 4-yr leasing program to put these programs in the early classrooms. Doing more with fewer tax dollars has led our schools to often "share" curriculum directors, etc between school districts. Buildings are being closed & offered for sale & we may need to have campuses of a few classroom trailers of mixed grades. Anti-bullying programs are required by law, at last.

Sincerely,

Candace
